No More Top 10 Monday...

If I feel inspired to write a top 10 list I may still write one from time to time but I don't really want to write them every Monday any more. So no more Top 10 Monday for now.

Today is my last work free Monday for a long time. Boo...I mean yay. I start back to work on Thursday and students start back next Monday. So my days of leisure are extremely numbered.

I can't really complain because summer has been very sweet to me...probably my best summer EVER. However, getting back into my work routine may take a little time. I'm good at time off. Aren't we all?

Well, I'm off to take some advantage of my remaining time. I'm going to finish my post with some pictures from Friday night. We were on a party bus for our friend's surprise birthday party planned by her husband.








Have you ever been on a party bus? If you haven't you should do it when you have the chance. It's a fun time.

Top 10 Monday

Since I've been back from Hawaii I've had the aloha and vacation spirit inside of me. I love it. I hope it stays forever...especially when I go back to work in August.

Even though I'm not back to work yet (I'm a teacher) I've had my aloha spirit tested but I've still maintained. I don't think it's been tested ten times since we've been back but here's the top ways so far...(I'm going to throw some Hawaii pictures in too...they help to show why I have the aloha spirit).

5. I was the only person on the plane back from Maui who didn't get any sleep...and the lady next to me was the ditziest lady ever born.

She had a bunch of charms on her flip flops and one of the keys fell off. I handed it to her and said it fell off her shoe and in a Minnie Mouse voice she said,"I don't think so," then proceeded to make fun of me to her daughter.

Ditsy rude lady. I was annoyed so I tackled her.

4. I need four new tires by Saturday.

3. I had a pain in my belly yesterday for 8 hours and after googling my symptoms I was convinced I had appendicitis. John thought it was a pulled muscle. He put Icy-Hot on it.

2. I came close to heat exhaustion when I was outside with John while he was working on our crazy air conditioner. It was seriously at least 112 degrees when we were out there.

1. Our air conditioner stopped working the day we got home.

So I guess my aloha spirit has only been tested five times. Not bad. Don't you just love how you feel when you come home from a great vacation? Me too.

Today's list is the top 10 most embarrassing things I've done fashionably (or not so fashionably) throughout my life.

10. My freshman year in college I let my hair stylist do this to my hair...



Of course I didn't pull it off as well as Jennifer Aniston and I think at some point I even had bangs with this style. I liked it then but I think anyone could look at pictures of me with that style and say,"Yep, definitely taken in the 90's."

9. Big bangs...80's. I had a rather pathetic attempt at big bangs.

8. Banana clips...my mom did that to me in elementary school.



7. Shirts with ribbons and rhinestones sewn on...sexy.

6. Vests. In middle school I had several. I looked equally dorky in all of them.

5. High waisted pants. Nobody looks good in these.

4. Rolling of the jeans. That was the trend but I was never able to do it right.

3. Pajama bottoms out in public. Tacky.

2. Layered socks.

Before my big red glasses I had big purple glasses. I thought I was cool.

Maybe everyone does this, I don't know...but in addition to enjoying movies and tv shows because of the movie or the show, I like to watch them for the decorating. Decorating you say? Yes, decorating. I like the warm and cozy places the most. Here's my top 10 movie/tv sets...

Their house is definitely nice but not flashy or decadent. I love it because it feels like a home, with history and love. I think that's what every home should feel like...especially the real ones =).

Side note: I wrote this post on Saturday while I was re-watching Marley and Me. I was a complete mess 90% of this movie. It's so real. I love it. I was definitely correct in putting it as one of my top ten movies that make me cry.

Today's top 10 list consists of the ten songs that always make me think of a very specific time in my life...

10. You oughta know by Alanis Morissette. It makes me think of my freshman year at Texas Tech. It was very big that year.

9. Bizarre Love Triangle by New Order. It's an 80's song but they used to play it a lot at the dance clubs (again in college). It was one of those,"I have to dance to this song!"

8. Sex and Candy by Marcy Playground. This makes me think of driving around Austin with John and his brother's girlfriend circa 1998.

7. Any Man of Mine by Shania Twain. I am sooooooo not a fan of country music but my freshman year at Tech, my friends and I would blast this song in the dorm and dance to it. We even had somewhat of a routine to it.

6. Dreams by the Cranberries. This was the song for my graduating class back in high school. I love this song. I guess I just love this song because it definitely doesn't take me back to the days of high school. I'm happy those days are gone!

5. Papa Don't Preach by Madonna. For some reason when I think of this song I think of eating Chico's tacos while this was playing in the background. I loved it. I don't think it was too appropriate for a nine year old to know all it's lyrics though...

4. Any song by Olivia Newton John. I remember busting out the record player and singing along dramatically to songs like Xanadu. Funny side note: When my sister was little she thought Olivia Newton John was actually three people: Olivia, Luke and John.

3. Any song by the Judds makes me think of going on a trip in the Taurus station wagon.

2. Coheed and Cambria's third album. John and I listened to it (many many times) while we painted our bedroom when we lived in the duplex in El Paso.

1. Crush by Dave Matthew's Band. John and I didn't seek out a song to be "our song". The first time we heard it we loved it and danced like dorks to it even though there were lots of people around. We had so much fun so then it did become our song. We danced to Crush for our first dance at our wedding.

The top 10 things I would do if I were extremely wealthy. Maybe this should be the top 10 frivolous things I would do if I were wealthy because I would definitely do a lot of things to help out others.

10. Hire an assistant. My assistant would be along the lines of a life coach. That would be awesome to have someone to say things like,"Ok, here's what you need to do..."

9. I would have a personal grocery shopper. I do online grocery shopping sometimes and I LOVE it but my personal grocery shopper would be the one to take stock of what we need and make sure we always have it...

8. I would definitely have a personal trainer...

7. A beach house somewhere beautiful...

6. A personal cook...

5. A driver, myself and the world would be much safer...trust me...

The top 10 things I buy at the grocery store every week...

10. Bags of salads-These are great for us because we feel like we're getting our veggies in. A lot of times we add to the salads to make them more delicious and nutritious...a lot of times we don't.

9. Apples-The only preparation is washing them. Sold.

8. Frozen veggies-Our favorites are the ones you steam...and have roasted potatoes. I know that makes it more carbo-licious for us but they're the only frozen veggies I can get John to eat.

5. Individual cheese snacks-Who doesn't love a cheese snack?

I'm not so good about cleaning out my old text messages. Here's my ten favorite that are still in my phone:

10. Your word of the day is opiniatry. It means mental obstinacy or inflexibility.
I got roped into a cell phone scam. I had taken an IQ test online where I had to give my cell phone number to get my results. Nothing good came out of it. I found out that I'm not so smart and they send me multiple text messages a day to boost my IQ. It costs $10 a month. I don't know how to remove it.

10. His and her bikes from my mom and Dick. They gave them to us for Christmas a couple of years ago.




9. Heart necklace from John. I wear it all the time. It's so pretty.

8. Books from my brother and Adriana. They took the time to find some interesting books from female authors for me. A few years ago for my birthday he and my sister in law gave me Mrs. Dalloway by Virginia Woolf and a book of short stories by Eudora Welty.

7. The afghan blanket my grandmother (Mama T.) made for me when I graduated from high school.

6. The lamp John gave me for my 31st birthday. I call it my Hobbit lamp.

My top 10 list for today has once again become a Number One list.

The number one moment from my life that makes me laugh every time I think about it:

When my brother dropped the "F" bomb while telling a joke to my mom, aunt, sister and me.

Here's the story. In the summer of 1999, my dad and uncle were talking on one side of the family room while my mom, aunt, brother, sister and I were at the table on the other side of the room. My brother started telling a joke that I was already very familiar with.

It's kind of a long joke but the punch line is,"Pass the f*!@ing potatoes."

I was thinking to myself, "He's not going to say the real word. He's going to say f word or he's going to spell it but he's not going to say the real word to my mom and aunt."

I was wrong. After he very loudly said,"Pass the f*!@ing potatoes", everyone (but me) got very quiet. Then my uncle who had heard my brother say the mother of all curse words but not the actual joke, started telling a story about a guy who used to cuss all the time. He eventually beat his bad habit by putting money in a jar every time he cussed.

This happened almost ten years ago but it makes me laugh until I cry every time I think about it.


Hopefully AJ is about to kiss Natalie on the cheek and not about to pass on the potato joke.
