Fit Friday

I'm writing this post on Wednesday because I'll be in Texas Thursday through Sunday. I'll be back on blogger on Monday. Hope you're all having a great week!

Goals. Gotta have them. My goal for awhile has been to maintain my level of fitness but that's getting pretty boring. I have a new goal for the summer. I want extremely toned arms like Jillian Michaels. I LOVE her arms.

I'm going to have to find a good fitness plan for my arms goal. This week the only thing I've done differently to help with my goal is I've been doing push ups. As you can see, I have a ways to go...

I'll let you know next week what my plan is for meeting my goal and my progress. What are your goals?

Sometimes it's no fun being a girl...

This is my disgruntled with femininity look.

I enjoy being a girl most of the time but there's days like today when I would prefer not to have a uterus. I should probably be careful what I wish for.

I have my appointment for my hysteroscopy today. I would rather be strapped to a chair and forced to watch every episode of "How It's Made".

So far so good...

My summer vacation is finally here...awwwwww...very very nice. I've been able to check off the first three things I said I was going to do...

I got my pedicure...

You're seeing right...purple. I'm not usually a purple girl but I felt pressure by the store manager to get something a little crazy. When I was looking for color, she kept picking up REALLY CRAZY colors like electric blue and green and would say,"Great color for summer!"

I felt like this purple was crazy enough to make her happy but not too crazy to make me feel stupid. She liked the color. Phew.

My second to do. Buy a new swim suit...

I have a bikini from last summer that I still like a lot but I wanted a tankini. There wasn't a huge selection but I do like this swim suit. Cocoa.

My third to do...say good bye to my teacher clothes (until August). Well, I definitely wouldn't wear this t-shirt to work so I guess that's mission accomplished.

I'll be making a new list today. Packing for Texas will be on my list. We are Texas bound on Thursday to celebrate my mom's big 6-0. We're super excited. I'm not going to tease my mom about turning 60. I'm always nice to old people.

Top 10 Monday

So on facebook yesterday I took a quiz that would tell me which celebrity would play me in real life. That inspired today's list. These are the top 10 celebrities I would WANT to play me in real life.

The celebrity facebook picked for me is on my list. Let's see if you can tell which one it is. The answer is at the bottom of my post.

10. Megan Fox. Ok, she's much younger than me and is quite the siren but I said the celebrities I would want to play me.

9. Natalie Portman. I think she's AWESOME and I actually thought she would be closer to my number one. Hmmmm....

8. Kate Hudson. I would prefer Goldie from back in the day but Kate Hudson is closer to my age...

7. Jennifer Garner. She's so pretty but she has a goofy side...it could work.

6. Ginnifer Goodwin

5. Rachel McAdams

4. Zooey Deschanel

3. Reese Witherspoon

2. Jennifer Aniston

1. Drew Barrymore

My picks aren't too original...who wouldn't want any of these celebrities to play them in real life? Who would you pick to play you in your life story?

My Facebook Answer: Reese Witherspoon

Fit Friday

My posts have been very short this week because of school ending. Starting next week I'll be able to put much more time and thought into them.

So, Fit Friday...hmm....

Let's do nutrition today. What's your favorite healthy food? You know, the food that is great for you but you LOVE eating it. Right now, I would say mine is pineapple. I could eat it every day all day long. It's a perfect fruit.

Excitement....

Since I'm soooooooooooooo excited for school to be out, the last few days of it are going so slow. As soon as I'm done tomorrow I'm off to...
  • Get a pedicure
  • Buy a new swimsuit
  • Put away all of my "teacher" clothing

They like me they really like me!

Just joking...that was what Sally Field said when she won her academy award in 1985. My blog buddy Katie at the Adventures of Katie and Josh just gave me a Lovely Blog award. Thanks Katie! That made me smile!

So now it's my turn to give seven or more lovely blog awards. I don't think I can give one to Katie but I definitely would. It's a great blog!

So the winners are:

1. John (my awesome husband) at Meaning in Music-I LOVE his blog but he thinks I'm his only reader...check out his blog so he'll post more than once a month =)
2. Jennifer (my wonderful sister) at a Peek Into Our World
3. GVZ (my hilarious cousin) at the GVZ's
4. Sarah (a fellow AZ resident) at Our Cozy Robbins Nest
5. Naomi (stumbled upon her blog and LOVED it-very happy blog) at Rockstar Diaries
6. Emily (happy, hopeful, loving mom and wife) I wasn't sure if you would want me to link to your blog or not on this. =)
7. Natalie (friend in AZ) at A Beagle and A Baby

I LOVE reading all of your blogs! Thanks for sharing your lives...

Now it's your turn to:
Give seven or more Lovely Blog Awards...
Put the award on your blog...
Link to the person who gave you an award...
Link to your award winners...
Leave a comment on your award winners blogs...

If you don't have time to do all of the rules...at least put the award on your blogs because you all do have truly lovely blogs! =)

Break Dancing with the Fam...

I just found out that jibjab does a lot more videos than just Christmas ones. Thanks Shireen and Amy! It doesn't cost much to join but we did one of the free ones.

Fit Friday

Tunes...not just tunes but great tunes are essential for me during a workout. They make me work harder and longer. There's some that have stayed on my mp3 player for over a year and still drive me. There's others that have worked for awhile and then I grew tired of them. Then there's those that I thought would be good but I couldn't even listen to them once.

Hallelujah by Paramore has been on my player since March of 2008 and I still run faster every time I hear it. Eminem's song from 8 mile worked for a long time but I've been skipping it lately. Damien Rice oddly enough has been great to workout to lately.

I found a list on the internet once about suggestions for good music to workout to. No matter what you hear never ever put Loveshack on your player. It was annoying the first time I listened to it. It was the same with Eye of the Tiger. I just felt cheesy.

What music do you like to workout to?

Our Guest Bedroom...

Hi Everybody! This is the third week of Kelly from Kelly's Korner Show Us Where You Live Friday. This week is the guest bedroom. Welcome to our little guest bedroom. If we ever have any kiddos this will be a kid's bedroom but for now it's for friends and family.

The second summer we lived here, John's aunt came to visit us and she sewed us these curtains...

The place our guests catch some zzzzz's...

John and his aunt made the wall hanging for us when we still lived in Texas...

I decoupaged this light switch cover a few years ago and we thought it would be perfect for our room that houses travelers...

I love the light switch cover even though it's not my favorite Kerouac book...The Dharma Bums is.

I hope you enjoyed our little guest bedroom. Come back next week for our itty bitty dining room.

Click here to check out Kelly's guest bedroom and a whole bunch of others.

Thoughts on blogging, memory and stuff...

I know I don't have very many readers and I'm related to most of you but I love writing to you. It's good for my memory too because I look back at my posts and I'm always like,"Oh yeah I remember doing that..."

Remember how I wrote awhile back about how I'm losing my memory? Well on my blog tracker at least once a week it shows that someone clicked on that post (Memory loss in my early thirties). Poor people. They are looking for help and they stumble onto my blog and me spouting off about the possibility of wearing two layers of Lady Speedstick. It's probably not the kind of information they were looking for...

I found out yesterday that I'm responsible for making sure the Ballet Folklorico dresses get cleaned for next year. I brought two home tonight to wash. This is what happens when I'm left alone with a costume...

Ole!

Must See TV...

I was so sure that Tara was going to be the Biggest Loser last night that I made a post about it before the show. I had to change it. Helen the 48 year old won instead.

If you don't watch it already you should watch the Biggest Loser. At least watch the season finales. It will blow you away and you'll be so excited for strangers.

So my girl didn't win. However, Tara looks awesome and could kick my bootie!!! She went from 292 pounds to 139...AMAZING!!!

Fit Friday

The power of a mantra. Mantras may seem a little cheesy but they are soooooooo powerful when you're trying to change a habit.

I used them A LOT while I was trying to lose weight and A LOT during maintenance. The mantras replaced my former negative thinking. I used to think things like,"This will never last" or "Maybe I'm not meant to be fit". Yeah, those thoughts needed to be thrown out.

I've told you before that the main one I use now is,"Yes I can." I also still use,"One day at a time."

Here's a list of mantras from one of the Biggest Loser books...

  • One day at a time
  • Keep on keeping on
  • I'm prepared for today's workout
  • I can do this
  • I have a strong, healthy body
  • I feel great
  • Just one more mile
  • I'm beautiful
  • Fit feels good

If you're trying to become healthy or maintain a healthy lifestyle just take it one day at a time and support yourself as you would support a friend.

Our Living Room...

This is week two of Show Us Where You Live Friday hosted by Kelly at Kelly's Korner. Living rooms are the feature room. If you're one of my loyal followers (Mom), be sure to check out Kelly's home by clicking on Kelly at Kelly's Korner above. It's beautiful.

Welcome to our living room. We don't have a "formal" living room, we've just got the one.

This is what you see when you walk into our house. John and I also see a jumping dog when we get home. We could leave the house for fifteen minutes and Kita would still get super excited when we walk in...

This is the view from our dining room. We just got HD cable and John discovered the Palladia channel. It has concerts on it pretty much 24/7.

I love the top shelf of our bookcase for two reasons. I LOVE this lamp. John gave it to me last year for my birthday. It's my happy lamp. I also refer to it as my Hobbit lamp. I think it looks like something that would be in a little Hobbit home for sure.

I also love the picture we have on the shelf. It's of my brother, sister and me from when we were little kiddos. I'm the one with the beanie over my eyes. My sister did that right before my dad took the picture.

When I took this picture I was standing next to our fireplace.

I took this picture of Kita last weekend. I walked into the living room and found her like this. It was too sweet to pass up. Good thing we keep our camera close by...

Thanks for checking out our living room!

The Bounce Is Back...Kind of...

Lester did get smaller. He's now 4 inches instead of 6 so that's good. I was told to still be careful. After complaining about not running or doing aerobics anymore the ultra sound woman said I can do those things now but if I have any pain at all I need to stop.

My lovely lady appointments aren't stopping quite yet. They're keeping their eye on Lester and I may have a uterine polyp or just really thick lining (trying hard not to be too graphic). So that means that I'll have to go in for a procedure so they can see if it's a polyp and remove it if it is.

I was hoping to say "Peace Out!" to Lester but he's taking his sweet time. Stupid Lester.

The Countdown...

In a few short hours I have my appointment to check on my Lester status. If Lester is gone my next post will be titled,"The Bounce is Back!" If Lester is still with me it will be titled,"No Bouncing Yet for You My Friend..."

Coming Home to Something Lovely...

Johnny making dinner...

He made us penne pasta with sun dried tomato alfredo sauce and turkey sausage last night. Mmmm mmm...

Thanks John!

That's Hot...

This picture of John makes me giggle. He was trying on his old snorkling gear for Hawaii. It's two months away but we can't help ourselves. We're really excited. I told him he didn't have to wear his bleached out fins but he's all about them. I think the ocean creatures might laugh at him...

Top 10 Monday...

Today's top 10 list is about my ten favorite 80's movies. I had to cut Dirty Dancing and Some Kind of Wonderful.

Here we go...

10. Ferris Bueller's Day Off 1986

9. Weird Science 1985

8. Pretty in Pink 1986

7. Adventures in Babysitting 1987

6. Vacation 1983

5. Feds 1988

4. The Goonies 1985

3. Sixteen Candles 1984

2. Steel Magnolias 1989

1. The Muppets Take Manhattan 1984

I know my number one is pretty childish but I LOVE that movie. Muppets are fun. When I was a kid I had a Miss Piggy sleeping bag. She was in an evening gown sitting on the moon. It was the coolest.

So all you 80's kids, what are your favorites?

Just Because...

If you read my top ten list from Monday you know that on Pandora radio on Sunday On Your Porch was my favorite song I heard. I had never heard that song before. Apparently I've been living my life since 2003 without it.

This week I've listened to it A LOT and it makes me cry pretty much every time. I think it's so sweet. If you haven't heard it before take five minutes and have a listen (it's by The Format)...

Our Kitchen...

Kelly at Kelly's Korner is doing Friday posts now called Show Us Where You live Friday. This week is about the kitchen. So welcome to our kitchen...

Here's the perspective from our itty bitty dining room...

Now from the other side...

Guests kept trying to throw their trash in Kita's food bin so out came the permanent marker...

That's Kita and me on John's commuter mug. This is my first appearance on a mug. Kita's too...

My sister gave us this fabulous calendar for Christmas. These two cuties are Eliza (sister's kiddo) and Nicole (brother's kiddo). I get excited every month at the new pictures we'll see.

I know the calendar says April but I have information written on May's that probably shouldn't be posted on a public blog. Curious, aren't ya?=)

Thanks for touring our kitchen. I'd show you our pantry and the inside of our refrigerator but I wasn't born with the organization gene. Sorry about that.

Fit Friday...

Hi you guys. I think your positive energy worked. I met my deadline. Thanks! Before I left work yesterday I had put the remaining of my paperwork in inter-office mail. Woohoo...

So, Fit Friday. Workout routine specifics, as requested. I'm going to be giving you three workout routines. One for when I was losing weight, one for post weight loss and one for now (with Lester).

Weight Loss Workout:

Monday, Wednesday, Friday: Strength training, with at least 20 minutes of cardio.

Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday: Cardio.

*I did the strength training routines from the Biggest Loser site. I don't remember the specifics but they involved free weights, lunges, squats, abdominal work...

*My cardio would alternate between running on the treadmill (I can run forever as long as I have music) and exercise videos. I did Billy Blanks Boot Camp. Running, Biggest Loser strength training routines and the boot camp took me through my weight loss.

After Weight Loss Workout:

It's pretty much the same as my weight loss routine as far as the schedule goes but I would do lots of different things for cardio...treadmill, elliptical, different exercise videos, biking, swimming...

With Lester:

Monday, Wednesday, Friday: Strength training...I have to take it a little easy and walking on the treadmill.

Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday: Walking on the treadmill.

It's sooooooooooooooooo boring with Lester. Last night John and I took a chance and went for a bike ride. Take that Lester.

What are your favorite ways to burn some calories? Keep it clean please (you know who I'm talking to =)).
